Question by Barrett!!!: Career with Kinesiology and Exercise?
I want to do something with Exercise and still make somewhat good money. I’d love to research it, but I want to be involved with it. I love the scientific aspect behind it.
Any pointers on should I major in something else to pursue my love of teaching or to major in Kine and find something better?

My son has a Kinese degree and now works at a law firm. The science aspect of that major might qualify you for employment with pharmaceutical companies, etc.
Be a teacher. Better yet, be an administrator in the education system. I know administrators (asst. principals, etc) who have teaching degree’s, never taught, and make $ 75,000+ a year. requires a minimum of a master’s dgreee in Ed. Go on for a PhD and earn over $ 100,000+

Anthropology is one.
The major difference is a focus less on a particular culture and social situation and a willingness to agree that people can be inherently different based on environment, history, and genetics. Expect a hybrid between biology and social science for anthropology.
As a career, anthro can be applied (working cross-culturally or internationally) or academic and includes the fields of archaeology and some sub-areas of human genetics.
Social Psychology is another.
Instead of ascribing all behavioral differences to differences in learning, social psychology (and psychology in general) look at differences in individual behaviors based on both a biological and learning basis. Expect more in the way of quantitative (research based on measurement and statistics) than sociology.
Social psych as a career can be academic, lead to work in human resources and/or business management, and potentially therapeutic careers.
Women’s studies is similar in background as sociology but with an agenda attached.
I really do not know what women’s studies people do as a career.
Political Science is another related field.
Essentially, it’s an applied sociology with the focus on government and institutions rather than basic understanding of social situations. Expect more statistics and possibly even game theory to help understand political decision making.
Career-wise, these are the people who try to understand and influence political institutions… Campaign managers, analysts, staffers, etc.
Finally, criminal justice is related.
Once more, it’s mostly applied sociology with a focus on rule violation and how to identify it, fix it, and prevent it. Career-wise, you’re looking at law enforcement, law, advocacy for victims and criminals, and other related job aspects.
There’s also Social Work, but you might just want to google that one.

Question by Jess H: Where to obtain a Masters Degree in Gerontology?
I am looking for any recommendations of good schools to attend to receive my masters in gerontology? I will receive my social work degree (BSW) in may, and am looking at grad school. I have searched and found a lot, but am looking for any recommendations.
Elima: thanks for all the listings they are wonderful! Yes I know what gerontology consists of, that is why I am hoping to obtain my masters in the field. My internship this year is at an assisted living facility and I love working there. I feel as if obtaining my masters in gerontology would help me to become a more effective social worker within this specific area. My college used to have a minor in gerontology but cut the program because not many students were interested.

dear You know Gerontology is the physical, mental, and sociological study of aging. It includes the study of changes in adults as they age, the ways that society changes with an aging population, and the ways we apply this information to programs and policies for older adults. A degree in gerontology prepares the student for careers working with older adults or as advocates for the elderly.

Question by aedwards02: For a science career, possibly oncology(cancer treatment), which foreign language should I take during college
I am going to be a freshmen in college this fall. I am going to major in molecular biology, probably heading for med school after that. I want to do something in oncology (cancer treatment). My question is whether i should take something like Chinese, for the high demand of people fluent in Chinese, or should I take something like Spanish, since obviously there is a large Spanish population in the US?
Best answer:
Answer by HackerofC
Chinese Culture and language are something difficult– yer rewarding.
However, there might be a need for Chinese speakers, but that is mostly in the areas of the CIA or Medical Researcher, the former taking the top spot.
Hispanic people still not graduating from college like they should and their population is to said the least, exploding.

Much of the grow is from immigration, Therefore, people with low English skils.
Taking Chinese would not hurt.
But taking and Mastering Spanish will help.
Even UCLA agrees:

I was thinking more long term. Perhaps director of rehab or some other management position? Also, does anyone know the pay scale for working at a county hospital? A client works as a PTA in pediatrics and makes $ 44/hr in California.

Answer by TheFominator
I have a B.S in Kinesiology aka…Exercise Science.
I work for a tobacco company.
I started as a personal trainer, got my ACE certification. You can make good money doing that.
You can work in a cardiac rehab but usually need a masters and there isn’t good money in it. Very repetitive.
You can work as a an assistant for chiropractor, sports med center, field trainer, physical therapist. Most still require more specific training that your employer may pay for.
Good luck….
