Question by blah blah: Pediatric Oncology career/life/how do you do it?
I’m a junior in high school and getting ready to go or at least start my path to college. My dream has always been to go into pediatrics and oncology has always fascinated me. So even though it is a emotionally hard job, I feel like it would be very rewarding to help children who probably don’t know how much longer they have to live. I feel like if I can make them happy, then my job is fullfilled. But my question is, how do you pediatric oncologists, or any doctors for that matter enjoy life at home. I want a family and another life besides work, but do you manage to find time for that? I don’t want to miss out on what life has to offer, but I still want this career SOOO badlyy.
any advice? how do you guys manage?
thank you in advance. it’s really appreciated. =)

what a coincidence, i am i junior in high school and i want to become a pediatric oncologist, also!
basically you have to go to a four year college for pre-med, or biology, something along those lines, go to a med school. All doctors have the same classes in med school. During internship, you spend time with doctors in the same field, that you want to go in. And then residency, then you are a doctor.
it will take approximately 12 years to become a pediatric oncologist

Question by Briana C: Looking for info. on Pediatric Oncology careers…?
I’m in high school and I’m currently really intrested in becomine a pediatric oncologist, and just really want to know all the basics about it. Any info anyone has, whether its about the best colleges, or average salary. I still want to have time for a family and I want to be sure this will still be possible as well.
My goal is to someday work at St. Judes Children’s Research Hospital, so if anyone has any info. about here that would be greatly appreciated as well. I know St. Judes is located in tennessee, but I was wondering if there are any alternative locations?
Thanks for all the help!

If you are that interested, try a job shadow with a real pediatric oncologist. Get the chanvce to talk to him/her about the good, the bad, the uglies of the job. Talk about the educational requirements.
Want more information about St Judes? Check out their website.
